Bandi Sanjay Son Case-POCSO Case and ₹5 Crore Extortion Claim Shake Telangana Politics
Alekhya Kota - MAY 9, 2026

A major political controversy has erupted in Telangana after Hyderabad police registered a case under the POCSO Act against Bandi Sai Bhageerath, son of Union Minister and senior BJP leader Bandi Sanjay Kumar. The incident has quickly become a high-profile issue in the state due to the serious nature of the allegations and the political prominence of the family involved.
According to police sources, the case was filed following a complaint by the family of a 17-year-old girl who accused Bhageerath of inappropriate behaviour and harassment. The complaint reportedly stated that the two had known each other for some time through social circles and had remained in contact for several months. Based on the allegations, police registered a case under sections related to offences against minors and launched an investigation.
The issue gained even more attention after claims surfaced that the alleged incident took place during a private gathering attended by several youngsters near Hyderabad. Reports also suggested that the girl accused Bhageerath of forcing her into uncomfortable situations during the gathering. Authorities are now examining the sequence of events and collecting statements from people connected to the case.
However, the controversy took a dramatic turn after Bhageerath filed a counter-complaint. Denying all allegations against him, he claimed that he was being targeted through a planned attempt to extort money. According to his complaint, he had developed a friendship with the girl through mutual contacts, but tensions reportedly began after disagreements over marriage and personal matters.
Bhageerath alleged that pressure was placed on him to marry the girl and that demands for a large amount of money were later made when he refused. He also claimed that threats and emotional pressure were used against him. Based on his complaint, police reportedly registered a separate case and began investigating the allegations of extortion and intimidation as well.
With both sides making serious accusations against each other, investigators are now examining evidence carefully before drawing any conclusions. Police are expected to verify digital conversations, phone records, witness statements, photographs, and other material connected to the case. Officials are also likely to question people who attended gatherings involving the individuals concerned.
The case has become politically sensitive because Bandi Sanjay Kumar remains one of the BJP’s strongest leaders in Telangana. His aggressive political style and active role in state politics have often kept him in the spotlight. The allegations against his son have therefore triggered strong reactions from rival political parties and supporters alike.
Opposition leaders are expected to use the controversy to target the BJP, while party supporters insist that the investigation should proceed fairly without political interference or media pressure. Social media platforms have already witnessed intense debate, with public opinion sharply divided over the issue.
The controversy has also renewed discussions about the growing political tensions in Telangana, where confrontations between major parties have become increasingly aggressive in recent months. The latest incident has now added another sensitive issue to the state’s heated political atmosphere.
Meanwhile, police officials have stated that the investigation is still in the preliminary stage and that no final conclusions have been reached so far. Authorities have assured that all evidence will be examined thoroughly and that action will be taken strictly according to the law.
As the investigation progresses, the case is expected to remain under close public and political watch across Telangana. The outcome will depend entirely on the evidence collected and the findings of the ongoing inquiry.
