A sudden fuel scare created panic across Hyderabad as motorists rushed to petrol pumps fearing shortages. Long queues formed across multiple areas, and several fuel stations reported running low on petrol and diesel after an unexpected surge in demand.
Panic Buying Triggers Chaos
Residents across the city began filling their tanks after rumors of fuel shortages spread quickly. The situation escalated as many motorists attempted to stock extra fuel, leading to unusually high demand. Two-wheelers, cars, and commercial vehicles lined up outside fuel stations, creating traffic congestion in busy localities.
Within hours, some petrol pumps displayed “No Stock” notices, further intensifying public concern. The sudden spike in demand, rather than an actual shortage, caused temporary disruptions at several outlets.
Credit Dispute Impacts Fuel Supply
The situation was further complicated by a credit dispute between fuel dealers and oil supply companies. Changes in payment arrangements reportedly required dealers to clear dues or make advance payments before receiving fresh supplies. This created delays in fuel replenishment at certain pumps, adding to the pressure caused by panic buying.
Due to these challenges, several petrol stations experienced slower restocking, which contributed to temporary shortages in different parts of the city.
Public Anxiety Adds to Demand
The fear of potential fuel scarcity led many residents to rush to nearby petrol pumps. Some people filled fuel in additional containers, while transport operators also topped up tanks to avoid disruptions to their daily operations. This sudden and unusual demand quickly exhausted available stock at multiple stations.
The panic-driven demand created an artificial shortage, even though supply chains remained largely intact.
Authorities Urge Calm
Officials clarified that there was no major fuel shortage and urged citizens not to panic. Authorities assured that supply arrangements were being streamlined and additional fuel deliveries were being scheduled to stabilize the situation.
Fuel dealers also appealed to the public to avoid hoarding, stating that panic buying could worsen the situation and inconvenience essential services.
Situation Expected to Improve
With supply adjustments underway and demand expected to normalize, the fuel availability across Hyderabad is likely to improve soon. Officials remain confident that the disruption is temporary and that regular fuel supply will resume shortly.
The incident highlights how sudden panic and misinformation can quickly strain supply systems, even when overall fuel availability remains sufficient.
