Rayalaseema Set for Transformation as River Interlinking Gains Momentum: Chandrababu Naidu
Kranthi Shekar - APR 7, 2026

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has expressed confidence that Rayalaseema will soon witness significant development through river interlinking projects. Addressing officials and local leaders, he emphasized that improved water availability would transform the drought-prone region into a thriving agricultural and economic hub.
River Interlinking to Address Long-Standing Water Scarcity
Rayalaseema has historically struggled with water shortages and recurring droughts. The state government is focusing on connecting major rivers and diverting surplus floodwaters to dry regions. By storing excess water and channeling it to water-scarce districts, the administration aims to ensure irrigation support throughout the year and reduce dependency on unpredictable rainfall.
The Chief Minister stated that once the river interlinking projects are completed, thousands of acres of dry land could be brought under cultivation. This initiative is expected to strengthen agriculture and provide long-term relief to farmers in the region.
Boost to Agriculture and Rural Economy
With reliable irrigation facilities, farmers in Rayalaseema are expected to shift from traditional rain-fed crops to high-value agriculture. The government believes that better water management will increase crop productivity and improve farmers’ income. In addition, allied sectors such as dairy, horticulture, and food processing are likely to expand, creating employment opportunities in rural areas.
The Chief Minister also highlighted that water availability would encourage farmers to diversify into fruits, vegetables, and other commercial crops, helping Rayalaseema emerge as a horticulture hub.
Focus on Infrastructure and Long-Term Planning
Apart from irrigation, the government is also working on strengthening water storage capacity through reservoirs and lift irrigation systems. These projects aim to ensure that surplus water during monsoon seasons is effectively utilized rather than going to waste. The administration is prioritizing the completion of ongoing irrigation projects to accelerate development in drought-affected districts.
Balanced Development Across Regions
According to Chandrababu Naidu, ensuring water security in Rayalaseema is crucial for balanced regional growth across Andhra Pradesh. Improved irrigation and water supply are expected to attract industries, boost investments, and enhance living standards in the region.
A New Hope for Rayalaseema
The river interlinking initiative is being seen as a major step toward transforming Rayalaseema’s future. With increased water availability, agricultural growth, and economic opportunities, the region is expected to move away from drought-related challenges and progress toward sustainable development.
