TDP Takes Crucial Call in Pithapuram, Varma’s Exit Creates Massive Buzz
Alekhya Kota - MAY 7, 2026

A major political development in Andhra Pradesh has created fresh discussions across political circles, especially in the politically sensitive Pithapuram constituency. Reports indicate that senior Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader S.V.S.N. Varma has been removed from the role of constituency in-charge, a move that has attracted significant attention within the ruling alliance. While the party leadership has not yet made a formal announcement, the news has already triggered speculation about the future political dynamics in the region.
Pithapuram has remained under the spotlight ever since Jana Sena Party chief and current Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan chose the constituency to contest the 2024 Assembly elections. His decision turned the constituency into one of the most talked-about political battlegrounds in Andhra Pradesh. Before the elections, S.V.S.N. Varma was considered one of the prominent TDP faces in the constituency, and many party workers expected him to represent the seat. However, with alliance calculations taking priority, the constituency was eventually allotted to Pawan Kalyan as part of the TDP–Jana Sena partnership.
The decision initially led to disappointment among sections of TDP supporters and Varma’s followers. Political observers at the time noted visible dissatisfaction among local cadres who believed their long-time leader deserved the opportunity to contest. However, after intervention from the party high command and alliance leadership, Varma extended support to the coalition candidate and actively participated in campaign activities. His cooperation was considered crucial in helping the alliance secure a massive victory in the constituency.
Following the election results, many believed that political tensions in Pithapuram would gradually settle down. However, reports of disagreements between leaders and cadres of the alliance parties continued to emerge. Local political activities, public meetings, banner placements, and issues related to protocol reportedly became sources of friction between certain groups. Though these disagreements were mostly seen as internal matters, they slowly gained political significance due to the high-profile nature of the constituency.
Political analysts believe the latest development involving Varma may be linked to the leadership’s attempt to maintain balance and discipline within the alliance structure. Since Pithapuram is represented by a top leader like Pawan Kalyan, the constituency has naturally gained additional political importance. Any controversy or misunderstanding there tends to attract wider public attention and media focus. As a result, the alliance leadership is believed to be taking every issue seriously in order to avoid negative political messaging.
In recent months, a few incidents reportedly caused discomfort within sections of the alliance leadership. There were discussions surrounding public events and promotional material where the representation of leaders allegedly became a sensitive issue.
Political circles also spoke about differences over local coordination and leadership visibility. Although none of the concerned leaders publicly escalated the matter, repeated reports of internal friction appear to have prompted the party leadership to reassess the organizational structure in the constituency.
The timing of the reported removal has further increased political curiosity. Just days before these reports surfaced, S.V.S.N. Varma had met senior TDP leader and minister Nara Lokesh. The meeting sparked speculation about ongoing discussions related to the political future of Pithapuram and Varma’s role within the party. While there has been no official clarification regarding the details of the meeting, many political observers believe important organizational matters may have been discussed behind closed doors.
At the same time, supporters of Varma continue to express confidence in his political future. They believe he remains an influential leader with strong grassroots support in the constituency. Many party workers also feel that his contribution to strengthening the party in the region over the years cannot be ignored. Because of this, there is curiosity about what role the party leadership may assign to him in the future.
The situation in Pithapuram also reflects the larger challenges that coalition politics often faces. Alliances between parties may work effectively during elections, but maintaining coordination among local leaders and cadres after victory can sometimes become difficult. Balancing political aspirations, leadership recognition, and local influence requires constant communication and careful management. Political experts believe the developments in Pithapuram serve as an example of how local-level issues can quickly evolve into larger political debates.
Despite the ongoing speculation, alliance supporters are hopeful that differences, if any, will be resolved through internal discussions. Leaders from both parties have repeatedly emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation for the state’s political future. Since the TDP–Jana Sena alliance currently holds considerable public attention, maintaining harmony between cadre and leadership remains crucial.
For now, political attention remains firmly focused on Pithapuram. The constituency has once again become a center of political debate, with many waiting to see whether the party leadership will officially confirm the organizational changes and what future role S.V.S.N. Varma may play in Andhra Pradesh politics.
