Telangana Minister Urges Chandrababu Naidu to Seek Removal of Tejasvi Surya’s Remarks

Ponnam Prabhakar Says Comments on Andhra Pradesh Bifurcation Hurt Sentiments of Telangana People

A political controversy has surfaced after Ponnam Prabhakar appealed to N. Chandrababu Naidu to intervene and seek expunction of remarks made by Tejasvi Surya regarding the bifurcation of the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh. The Telangana minister expressed concern that the comments could create unnecessary tensions and hurt the sentiments of people who were part of the long struggle for statehood.

The issue arose after Tejasvi Surya made statements referring to the division of Andhra Pradesh, which drew criticism from Telangana leaders. They argued that the formation of Telangana was the outcome of a democratic process and not a divisive event. According to them, comparing the state’s formation with other historical divisions was inappropriate and ignored the peaceful and constitutional path through which Telangana came into existence.

Reacting to the remarks, Ponnam Prabhakar said Telangana was formed after years of public movements and political deliberations. He noted that people from various sections of society participated in the statehood movement, demanding better governance, regional development, and recognition of their identity. The minister stressed that such a historic movement should be treated with sensitivity and respect.

Prabhakar also highlighted that the creation of Telangana followed constitutional procedures and parliamentary approval. He pointed out that the process involved extensive debate and consideration before the final decision was made. Given this background, he argued that controversial comparisons could misrepresent the nature of the bifurcation and create confusion among people.

Seeking a constructive resolution, the minister urged Chandrababu Naidu to raise the matter and request removal of the remarks from official records. He said leaders from both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh should work together to maintain cordial relations and prevent statements that could affect mutual respect between the two states. According to him, cooperation between the neighboring states remains important for regional growth and development.

The minister further emphasized that elected representatives should exercise responsibility while discussing sensitive issues. He said that political statements carry significant influence and must be made carefully, especially when they relate to historical events and regional aspirations. Maintaining respectful dialogue, he added, is essential for preserving harmony.

Prabhakar also expressed concern that such remarks could affect the relationship between people of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. He pointed out that both states share strong cultural and social ties, and unnecessary controversies could create misunderstandings. He urged leaders to focus on strengthening unity rather than reopening emotional debates.

The Telangana minister also recalled the sacrifices made during the statehood movement. He noted that many individuals, including students, employees, and activists, played a role in the struggle. The formation of Telangana, he said, represented the fulfillment of long-standing aspirations and therefore holds deep emotional value for many people.

He further stated that discussions related to state formation should acknowledge the democratic nature of the process. According to him, Telangana’s creation reflected the will of the people and followed established constitutional mechanisms. Respecting this process, he added, is important for maintaining trust in democratic institutions.

The controversy has triggered reactions in political circles, with leaders emphasizing the need for careful communication on sensitive matters. Many believe that issues related to statehood movements require balanced and responsible discussion to avoid unnecessary tensions.

Prabhakar also suggested that removing the remarks would help calm the situation and reassure people that their sentiments are respected. He emphasized that political leaders should focus on development and cooperation rather than engaging in statements that could revive old disputes.

The development has once again highlighted the continuing emotional significance of the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. Even years after Telangana was formed, the subject remains sensitive and closely linked to regional identity and public sentiment. Political leaders are therefore being urged to approach such issues with caution.

As discussions continue, the appeal made by Ponnam Prabhakar has brought attention to the importance of responsible political dialogue. The issue underscores the need for leaders to maintain respectful communication, especially when addressing historical developments that carry deep emotional significance for people across both states.
