Tamil Nadu is set to recognise the dedicated work of 15 police officers and personnel who have played a significant role in the state’s fight against drug production and illegal trafficking. Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay will present the Chief Minister’s Police Medal to the awardees during the Independence Day celebrations on August 15.

The recognition comes as the state places greater emphasis on tackling the illegal manufacture, movement and distribution of narcotic substances. The 15 personnel were selected for their contribution to anti-drug operations, including intelligence gathering, investigations, major seizures, disruption of trafficking networks and efforts to prevent the spread of narcotics.

Greater Chennai Police Assistant Commissioner V. Manoj Kumar is also among those being recognised. His intelligence-led work helped detect 113 NDPS cases, leading to the arrest of 574 offenders and the identification of two clandestine drug manufacturing laboratories, according to reports on the awards.

The list also includes personnel working at different levels of the police system. Inspectors, assistant sub-inspectors, head constables and other officers have been recognised, reflecting the fact that narcotics enforcement depends on coordinated work across ranks and departments.
