No Shortage, Only Panic: Manohar Sounds Alarm on Fuel Mismanagement

Amid growing concerns over fuel availability in Andhra Pradesh, Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar conducted a detailed review of the situation and issued a strong warning against irregularities in fuel distribution. His intervention comes at a time when panic buying and supply disruptions have created confusion among the public, leading to long queues at petrol stations in several districts.

During the review, the minister made it clear that there is no actual shortage of fuel in the state, and that the current situation is largely driven by fear and misinformation. He emphasized that adequate stocks of petrol and diesel are available, and that the government is closely monitoring supply chains to ensure smooth distribution. However, he expressed concern over certain malpractices that have worsened the situation on the ground.

One of the key issues highlighted during the meeting was the diversion of fuel and the creation of artificial scarcity by some operators. The minister warned that strict action would be taken against petrol bunk owners or dealers found indulging in such activities. He directed officials to remain vigilant and take immediate steps against anyone attempting to exploit the situation for profit. This includes cases where outlets falsely claim shortage despite having sufficient stock.

To strengthen enforcement, instructions were given for coordinated inspections involving multiple departments, including civil supplies, police, and revenue authorities. These teams are expected to conduct surprise checks at fuel stations to identify irregularities such as hoarding, black marketing, or unauthorized diversion. The aim is to ensure that fuel reaches consumers fairly and without manipulation.

The minister also addressed the issue of panic buying, which has significantly increased demand beyond normal levels. He urged the public to remain calm and avoid unnecessary stockpiling, stating that such behavior only puts additional pressure on the distribution system. Authorities have observed that sudden surges in demand can lead to temporary shortages at specific outlets, even when overall supply remains adequate.

In an effort to manage demand and ensure equitable distribution, the government has considered implementing controlled supply measures at fuel stations. This includes limiting the amount of fuel that can be purchased per vehicle, especially during peak demand periods. Such steps are intended to prevent a few individuals from buying excessive quantities, thereby ensuring availability for a larger number of consumers.

The review also focused on improving coordination with oil marketing companies. Officials were instructed to maintain continuous communication with suppliers and ensure that fuel dispatches from depots to retail outlets are carried out without delay. Timely replenishment of stocks is crucial to restoring normalcy and preventing further inconvenience to the public.

Another important aspect discussed was the impact of the situation on key sectors such as agriculture and transport. The minister emphasized the need to prioritize fuel supply for essential services, including farming activities and public transportation. Ensuring uninterrupted fuel availability for these sectors is critical to maintaining economic stability and avoiding disruptions in daily life.

The administration has also been directed to enhance communication with the public. Regular updates through media and official channels are being encouraged to counter misinformation and reassure citizens about the availability of fuel. Clear communication is seen as a vital tool in reducing panic and restoring confidence among consumers.

Overall, the government’s approach combines strict enforcement with public awareness and efficient supply management. By cracking down on irregularities and addressing the root causes of panic buying, the authorities aim to stabilize the situation quickly. The minister’s firm stance sends a clear message that any attempt to misuse the situation will not be tolerated.

As efforts continue on multiple fronts, officials remain focused on bringing the situation back to normal at the earliest. With coordinated action and responsible behavior from both authorities and the public, the state is expected to overcome the current challenges and ensure smooth fuel availability in the days ahead.
