In a grand celebration of cinematic excellence, the International Film Festival of Delhi (IFFD) 2026 conferred the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award upon the "Lion" of Telugu cinema, Nandamuri Balakrishna. The honor, presented during the festival’s opening ceremony at Bharat Mandapam on March 25, recognizes his extraordinary five-decade journey and his contribution of over 100 films to the Indian film industry.
The event was a star-studded affair, graced by a host of dignitaries and cinematic legends. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated the festival alongside prominent figures including Hema Malini, Kangana Ranaut, and ministers Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma and Kapil Mishra.
A Moment of Humility and Heritage
While the award itself was a milestone, what truly captured the hearts of social media users was a poignant moment of tradition. Despite his immense stardom and seniority, Balakrishna was seen seeking the blessings of Hema Malini on stage. The veteran actress, who has shared screen space with Balakrishna in films like Gautamiputra Satakarni, was there to represent her husband, the legendary Dharmendra, who was also honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award alongside Sharmila Tagore.
Balakrishna’s gesture of touching Hema Malini's feet resonated deeply with fans, serving as a reminder of the cultural values he upholds despite his "larger-than-life" screen persona. During his acceptance speech, he paid an emotional tribute to his father, the late N.T. Rama Rao, attributing his 50-year success to his parents' blessings and his father's legacy of empowering women through cinema and politics.
The Legend’s Growing Trophy Cabinet
This latest accolade adds to an illustrious list of honors for the actor, who has previously been a recipient of the Padma Bhushan and the NTR National Award. His recent film Bhagavanth Kesari (2023) also found success at the 71st National Film Awards, winning Best Telugu Film—a movie that was specially screened at the Delhi festival to mark his achievement.
What’s Next for the "Lion"?
Even at 65, Balakrishna shows no signs of slowing down. His calendar for 2026-27 is packed with high-profile projects:
NBK 111 with Gopichand Malineni: Following the massive success of Veera Simha Reddy, the actor has reunited with director Gopichand Malineni for an action entertainer tentatively titled NBK 111. Production is currently in full swing, with reports suggesting that "Lady Superstar" Nayanthara will lead as the female protagonist.
The Debut of the Heir: Balakrishna is also closely overseeing the highly anticipated debut of his son, Nandamuri Mokshagna Teja. The project, titled Simba, is being helmed by Hanu-Man director Prasanth Varma. Set within the "Prasanth Varma Cinematic Universe" (PVCU), the film is currently in the pre-production and training phase, with fans eagerly waiting for a formal launch date later this year.
As Balakrishna continues to redefine "mass" cinema while mentoring the next generation of the Nandamuri legacy, his recognition in the national capital stands as a testament to a career that remains as vibrant as ever.
