Sanathnagar TIMS Becomes New Battleground Between BRS and Government
Alekhya Kota - MAY 15, 2026

K. T. Rama Rao strongly criticized the Telangana government over the delay in operationalising the TIMS hospital at Sanathnagar and demanded that the facility be opened for public use immediately. The issue has now turned into a major political discussion in the State, with the BRS accusing the present administration of neglecting an important healthcare institution that was built to serve thousands of people.
During his visit to the hospital premises, KTR questioned why a fully constructed medical facility was still not functioning despite increasing pressure on government healthcare services across Hyderabad. He stated that the hospital was developed during the previous BRS government with the aim of improving access to affordable and advanced medical treatment for ordinary citizens.
According to KTR, the Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS) hospital at Sanathnagar was planned as a modern healthcare centre capable of handling large patient volumes, emergency treatment, specialized medical care, and advanced health services. He argued that such a facility should not remain unused when many government hospitals are already struggling with overcrowding and heavy patient inflow.
The former minister alleged that projects launched during the BRS administration were being intentionally delayed after the change in government. He claimed political rivalry should never become a reason to postpone public welfare initiatives, especially projects connected to healthcare and emergency medical services.
KTR also emphasized that Hyderabad’s rapidly growing population requires stronger healthcare infrastructure. He pointed out that many people from nearby districts also depend on hospitals in the city for treatment, increasing pressure on existing facilities. According to him, opening the Sanathnagar TIMS hospital could significantly reduce the burden on major government hospitals and improve healthcare accessibility for thousands of families.
During interactions with party workers and media representatives, KTR said public money spent on constructing the hospital should not go to waste. He questioned why patients continue to face difficulties in obtaining hospital beds, consultations, and emergency treatment while a major medical facility remains non-operational.
The issue quickly gained political attention after BRS leaders intensified criticism against the government over delays in healthcare-related projects. Opposition leaders argued that the hospital infrastructure was already prepared and only required administrative decisions and staffing arrangements to begin functioning.
Meanwhile, the ruling side reportedly maintained that certain processes related to staffing, equipment installation, operational planning, and administrative approvals were still under review. Government representatives are believed to be assessing the readiness of the facility before formally launching services for the public.
The Sanathnagar TIMS hospital is considered strategically important because of its location within Hyderabad and its expected role in strengthening public healthcare infrastructure. Residents in surrounding areas have also expressed hope that the hospital becomes operational soon, particularly as demand for affordable treatment continues to rise.
Healthcare experts believe urban centres like Hyderabad require additional large-scale government hospitals to handle increasing population pressure and growing healthcare needs. Public hospitals often serve economically weaker sections who depend heavily on affordable medical services for treatment, emergency care, surgeries, and specialized consultations.
The debate surrounding the hospital has now expanded beyond healthcare and entered the larger political battle between the ruling government and the opposition BRS. Both sides are using the issue to question each other’s governance priorities and commitment toward public welfare projects.
KTR reiterated that healthcare should remain above politics and urged the government to act quickly in the interest of public welfare. He maintained that immediate operationalisation of the hospital would benefit patients, strengthen emergency medical services, and improve healthcare access across the region.
The controversy has once again highlighted the importance of timely implementation of public infrastructure projects, especially in sectors like healthcare where delays can directly affect people’s lives. As political arguments continue, citizens are now waiting to see when the Sanathnagar TIMS hospital will finally begin serving the public.
