Palamuru Project Turns Political Battleground Between Congress and BRS

Telangana Minister Jupally Krishna Rao has strongly responded to criticism surrounding the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Project, making it clear that the Congress government is fully committed to completing the scheme without any financial obstacles. Rejecting allegations about delays and shortage of funds, the minister accused the previous BRS administration of failing to give proper attention to the project despite being in power for several years.

The Palamuru-Rangareddy project is one of the most important irrigation schemes in Telangana because it is expected to provide water to drought-affected regions that have struggled with water scarcity for decades. Farmers in these districts have long depended on uncertain rainfall, making irrigation projects like this extremely important for agriculture and rural livelihoods.

Speaking about the issue, Jupally said the present government is moving ahead with a clear plan and there is no question of stopping or slowing the project. According to him, the Congress administration understands the importance of the scheme for lakhs of farmers and is determined to ensure that irrigation benefits reach every intended area.

The minister sharply criticized the earlier BRS government, claiming that it focused more on political promotion than actual project completion. He alleged that although huge promises were made during the previous regime, the work did not progress at the speed expected by the public. According to Jupally, the current government inherited multiple challenges related to finances, execution, and planning after coming to power.

He further argued that the Congress government is now trying to correct those shortcomings while speeding up pending works. The minister stated that allegations regarding lack of funds are baseless and politically motivated. He assured that necessary financial support is being arranged to continue the project without interruption.

The Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Project holds massive emotional and political significance in Telangana. For many farmers living in drought-prone areas, the project represents hope for better agricultural opportunities, improved income, and long-term water security. Because of this, any discussion related to delays or project execution immediately becomes a major political issue.

Jupally also accused the BRS leadership of ignoring the needs of certain backward regions while giving priority to other projects. He claimed that the Congress government is committed to balanced regional development and wants to ensure that neglected districts finally receive proper irrigation facilities.

The political battle between Congress and BRS over irrigation projects has intensified in recent months. Both parties are trying to present themselves as supporters of farmers and protectors of Telangana’s development interests. Irrigation remains a highly sensitive topic because agriculture continues to support a large section of the state’s population.

While political leaders continue exchanging accusations, farmers are mainly focused on when the project will actually deliver results. Many people in the affected regions have waited years for irrigation support and are hoping that the project will finally transform agriculture in their areas.

The Congress government now faces the challenge of showing visible progress on the ground. Large-scale irrigation projects often involve technical difficulties, environmental clearances, and financial pressures, but public expectations remain extremely high. Any slowdown in work immediately attracts criticism from opposition parties.

Political observers believe the Palamuru-Rangareddy project will remain a key discussion point in Telangana politics because of its direct impact on rural communities. Success in completing the project could strengthen the government’s image among farmers, while delays may provide fresh opportunities for the opposition to attack the ruling administration.

Jupally Krishna Rao’s latest remarks have once again brought irrigation politics into the spotlight. His statements reflected the Congress government’s attempt to reassure farmers while countering opposition criticism over development works. The issue has now become part of a larger political contest between Congress and BRS over governance, accountability, and promises made to the people of Telangana.

For the people living in drought-hit regions, however, the focus remains simple. They are waiting for irrigation water, agricultural stability, and long-term development. Political debates may continue, but farmers ultimately want faster completion of the project and visible benefits in their everyday lives.

As the war of words between Congress and BRS grows stronger, the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Project continues to remain at the center of Telangana’s political and developmental discussions.
